Week Three

This week during class time, I represented our team at the interview with our community partners. The interview consisted of learning about our community partners needs and parameters of the project. Below I will link the transcript of our conversation. Additionally this week, our team meet to discuss our progress on project planning so far, developed a skeleton for the Gantt chart to be used after we have our site visit, and discussed possible weaknesses for the rainwater system. Magdalena made a good point about making sure that the water is well filtered and will not have organic matter growing in the system. She also expressed concern about water sitting stagnate for long periods of time, as well as heating up and cooling down due to differences in temperature. Our team minutes are linked below.

Out of Curiosity, this week I went on the internet and watched different YouTube videos of people’s rainwater collection solutions. There were many different types, installation methods, construction, and capacities. One of the most interesting points I learned was about how rainwater systems need cleaning. Most of the videos I watched had a system with in the collection plumbing that allowed the pipes to be flushed out when needed. This is something I think we need to keep in mind while we are designing our system for the Hillsdale High School Building. We should also keep at the forefront who will be maintaining and using the system, to make sure that our solution to keeping the system clean is simple and effective. Below is my individual research for this week.
